Future steps

Time line further imrovents.png

Our future steps are divided into two timeframes, before the product is on the market and when it is on the market. Before EasyGarden can go to the market some testing needs to be done. This includes doing some strength tests and lifespan tests. Because we want our product to be used several times the material should also last long enough and therefore the quality should not decrease too much.

Usability testing is another step that should be taken in a usability study. This can be done by asking the elderly to do several tasks with the product and the app. From the feedback we receive, we can see if the product needs some changes. These could include the height of the tables, how reachable everything is if they can find every function on the app and so on. For both the usability testing and the product testing a full-size product is needed, with at least modules on all the provided heights.

Future steps to grow the business when the product is doing well on the market can be made by adding more different modules of the garden. These new modules could be added to the garden to make the garden more adjustable to every care homes needs. New modules could for instance be, smaller planters, climbing racks, watering hose, tool holders or tables. Before a new module gets introduced to EasyGarden, research can be done among our (potential) users to see which parts could be a good addition to the garden.

Besides adding new modules, also more kinds of plants can be added to our service. To start the business a small number of different seeds, but we can increase the different seeds we offer.

By doing research it was found that gardening can have great effects on the health of people. A future step for the service is offering horticultural therapy with the gardens. Horticultural therapy applies plants and gardening activities in activities in a therapeutic way. This therapy can be used to improve the quality of life of elderly people (Detweiler et al., 2012). A horticultural therapist could be employed by EasyGarden and can give horticultural therapy sessions at the care homes.

By making some minor changes to the product the EasyGarden can also be used in schools for educational purposes. Making it suitable for education a new app or an additional part of the app could be added in which there is more information on the plants, assignments and tasks suited to different age groups.
